Katy Trail

Ok so... 8.94 miles down, 491.06 to go!! right on track! Today I drove to St.Charles, MO and met up with my friend Tom who I hadn't seen in years and he ran with me on the Katy Trail. This is the trail that I will be running on once I reach the 13.1 mark of my 26.2 mile journey October 3 this year. We ran 6.51 miles.. It was a relatively good run other than the fact I pretty much threw up from running under the sun without any water stops or anything.. that tasted lovely.. the view of the Missouri river was gorgeous from the trail! I am even more excited about my marathon this coming fall and I definitely will have to drive out to the Katy Trail a few more times to get my visual landmarks in mind for how far/close I am to the finish line for when I actually run it, that way I can maintain a good pace. Only 154 days until that day gets here! I am not quite ready but I will be and I am sure as heck more than anything, EXCITED about it. Planning on running again tomorrow...sometime.. maybe.. depends on how much I get done on my take home finals and how much studying I need to get in for my finals scheduled for Tuesday.

The beginning and why I never run with a dog..

Ok so my friend Nick bet me to run 500 miles over the summer. At first there were no "catches" until I came up with this brilliant idea: how about we run against each other for charity! My thoughts were more or less "why not for a good cause?" though, but same general idea. It began yesterday, May 1, 2010 and goes until August 31,2010.. a rough average of 5miles per day. I figured this would be easy enough since I am training to run a full marathon October 3rd in St.Charles, MO. Yesterday, my first run, reminded me of why I just do not run with my beloved dog Sadie ever! It was terrible!! OK, so I really do not like going to the park by myself after dark so why not take my very protective mutt with me?? I slept from 330pm til about 730pm after I got home from work.. I was very exhausted and when I woke I was like I really need to get a run in!! I was going for 5miles but made it a measely 2.43, not even half way. My run included 3 pee breaks for Sadie, me running back and dragging her by the harness, me yellin "come on!!!!" at her and finally resorting to dropping her off at my car to wait for me to run a little more. As soon as I put her in my car, I took off much too quickly. I was pretty much sprinting, I figured it was for two reasons partly to show off how fast I can run (without my lazy dog) and to hurry back to my car, I REALLY HATE BEING AT THE PARK ALONE AFTER DARK!!! So today, I am meeting up with my friend Tom who I have not seen in quite a few years and we are going to run on the Katy Trail in St.Charles, MO.. I really look forward to this run so I can get a feel for the trail since I will be running it in October at my very first full marathon, the Lewis and Clark Marathon. I will write about the Katy Trail later today or tomorrow.
